Clay County Animal Rescue and Education Center, Inc. (CCARE) is looking to the community for input on the possibility of launching low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination clinics to help support local pet owners.

Until Monday, June 23rd, community members are encouraged to visit the CCARE Facebook page and fill out a brief survey to help them gauge the needs of area pet owners.  John Rieb, Shelter Manager, said this initiative came up after speaking with local pet owners.

“We’ve launched a Community Survey to help us plan a new program that would bring low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination clinics to Clay County.”

“This idea came from ongoing conversations with local pet owners, many of whom truly want to care for their animals, but just can’t afford veterinary services.”

“The goal of the survey is to get a better understanding of how people need help, what types of services would be most useful, and how we can make this a sustainable program.”

Rieb said services like this impact the entire community.  Unvaccinated stray and unwanted animals affect the neighborhoods, animal shelters, and the community’s overall health. Services of these types help reduce pressure on the shelters, and keeps the community safer.

He said they are currently in the logistical stage of this initiative. With the community’s input helping them understand what services may be needed.

“Once we get all the data, we’re going to analyze it, and that will help us decide whether or not it’s something that is needed here in Clay County, what exactly is needed, and what roadblocks are stopping people from getting their animals either vaccinated, spayed, or neutered.”

The survey only takes a few minutes and can go a long way in helping local pet owners and all residents in the community.
