Clay County EMS held their second annual Children’s Fishing Day at the Utility Park Kiddie Pond in Clay Center on Wednesday, May 22.

CCEMS workers brought fishing tackle, bait, and grilled hotdogs for families while they fished the pond. CCEMS Service Director Alec Trembath said the goal of the event was to get families outside and off the electronics.

One of those families was the Johnsons, who’s two-year-old son Kaen caught his first fish.

KCLY’s Quinn O’Hara spoke to the young fisher and his mother, Shawna, about the big catch.

The event was a part of EMS Week 2024, a weeklong national celebration of Emergency Medical Services. Wednesday’s celebrations also included several visits to area daycares to show kids the CCEMS ambulances and teach them about emergency medical care.
