Clay County Emergency Services (CCEMS) will hold its Fall EMT Class beginning on Monday, August 18th, for individuals interested in working as an Emergency Medical Technician or wanting to get their start in the medical field.
Alec Trembath, CCEMS Director, gave a rundown of the class.
“This class is for the EMT basic certification. It’s kind of the entry level for our service.”
The class will go from August to about December, meeting two nights a week, Mondays and Thursdays from about 6:00 to 10:00.
“At the end of the class, they do two tests, one for the state and then one for the national registry. After they pass those, they are certified as an EMT.”
“With the certification, they will be able to transport patients and give certain medications. They’ll be able to do trauma management and things like that.”
Trembath said while there is a cost for the class, there are options for payment through sponsorships by various agencies and other avenues. Agencies will have different requirements upon completion and certification.
Trembath said anybody can take the class.
“Even if you’re not looking for a career as an EMT, or if you just want to try it out and say you don’t like it, it always looks good on a resume.”
“But we’re always kind of looking for people to put on our PRN roster. Part-time people to fill in as needed.”
“We usually hire full-time off that roster. So, it’s a great step if you’re looking to get into emergency medicine, or just something in the medical field.”
Trembath also stated that this class is also a great way to support your community as a local EMT.
