After noticing large amounts of trash in Huntress Creek, Clay Center Masonic Lodge Member Alex Brown decided to organize a community service project to clean up the small stream.

Huntress Creek lazily snakes its way south past two parks and under four frequently trafficked bridges in Clay Center, making it the ideal place for discard cups, plastic, and other kinds of trash to collect. Brown said he and his fellow Masons from the Clay Center and Manhattan lodges will bring canoes through the creek and clean up as much trash as they can find.

The cleanup will begin at 8 am on Saturday, May 18, and end around noon the same day. Though the public is advised to stay out of the creek during the cleanup, Brown said he will gladly hand a trash bag to those willing to clean up the banks of Huntress Creek.
