The Clay Center City Council voted to donate $10,000 to Clay County General Public Transportation during their regular meeting on April 16.
The funds were donated to support an initiative from CCGPT aimed at lowering DUIs in Clay Center by providing transportation later into the night, said Operations Manager Don Wright.
The funds will be used to offset operational costs during fiscal year 2025 if a trial period proves the move sustainable. Wright said he hopes to begin a four-month trial period this coming October.
Until then, Wright said CCGPT will be preparing for the trial and looking for additional dispatchers and drivers for late night hours.
