On Saturday, June 14th, the Clay Center Rotary Club began a community service project aimed at improving sidewalks throughout Clay Center. Led by Rotary Club President Thomas Mulligan, a dozen local Rotary volunteers set out to repair and replace some of the sidewalks most in need of attention. Sections that were beyond repair were removed entirely, while uneven areas were smoothed out using specialized equipment.
Funding for the project was raised through the Clay Center Community Improvement Foundation’s (CCCIF) Match Day as well as a $6,000 Clay Center Community Improvement Grant through CCCIF. Additional assistance will be provided by Chris Fyfe as the work continues.

Speaking about the project, Rotary Club President Thomas Mulligan shared, “The year you are President you can select a project. So after spending time walking and running around town, I noticed a lot of areas where the sidewalks were in bad shape. So I thought, why not? To me, it means someone cares about the community and what it has to offer. In times where the cost of living is high, most homeowners are just trying to keep their bills paid. I thought, why not raise some funds and get these bad areas fixed? Living in Clay Center for over 40 years, it really does mean something to me to help keep our community on a path of improvement — even if it’s one slab at a time.”
The Clay Center Rotary Club continues its long tradition of service to the community, living out its motto of Service Above Self.
