Clay Center officially turned 150 years old on June 11th, 2025.

Instead of holding a separate event on the city’s official birthday, the City and Grow Clay County decided they would honor this milestone by making it the heart of Clay Center’s annual Piotique celebration. This year’s theme will be Stars, Stripes, and Small Town Pride.

The planning process officially began in April, but preparations shifted into high gear following the July 3rd Festivities. With a dedicated team of volunteers working behind the scenes, organizers are determined to make this year’s Piotique one to remember.

“We’ve got a lot in the works to make this Piotique one to remember, far beyond the traditional celebration. This year will highlight our town’s history, pride, and the people who make Clay Center special. It’s a huge undertaking filled with creative ideas, long hours, and a whole lot of heart,” said Kathryn Doster-Tipsword, Events Coordinator at Grow Clay County.

Grow Clay County announced in June that this year’s Grand Marshal will be Brad Conner. Doster-Tipsword said this makes the celebration even more meaningful.

All the festivities will take place around the Courthouse Square on Saturday, September 27th. Grow Clay County invites everyone – friends, family, neighbors, and guests – to enjoy the celebration.

“We’re especially excited to welcome not only visitors from near and far, but also those who are coming back home to celebrate where their roots began. It’s a time to reconnect, reminisce, and honor everything our small town stands for.”
