On Monday, February 12, the Clay County Commissioners met for their regular meeting.

Bobby Shomper, Highway Administrator, reported that the replacement of the bridge located on 24th Rd. between Valleyview Rd. and County Line Rd. will begin soon. Shomper said it will take several weeks to complete the project.

Alec Trembath, CCEMS’ Director, says the Department held a CPR Class on Saturday and had a few individuals attend.

Sheriff Benninga reported that one of the new Durango Patrol units the Sheriff’s Office ordered in 2023 has arrived. The Commissioners voted to accept two bids on additional Patrol units: a 2024 Dodge Durango Pursuit, and a 2024 Ram 1500 SSV Pickup.

The Commissioners also voted to accept a bid of $180,938.75 from Cutshall Construction to finish the offices at the Clay County Event Center. The estimated start time for the project is mid-April, and Cutshall Construction would take an estimated 6-8 weeks to finish.

Finally, Rhonda Carroll, the Clay County Landfill’s Director, and several KDHE officials met with the Board to discuss the violations the landfill has received. Carroll was instructed to continue to work on correcting the violations.
