Clay County Conservation District to Host Farmer to Farmer Lunch Meeting March 19th in Longford

By: Ryan Duey

The Clay County Conservation District will host its first of what it plans to be various Farmer to Farmer meetings on Wednesday, March 19th, at the Coachlight Restaurant in Longford. This lunch meeting is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Jessica Boeckman, District Manager, said the hope is to get people together to talk about conservation in the county.

“The meeting is really to get farmers and ranchers together to talk about conservation in Clay County. We’re hoping that we can get some feedback on what we can do as a District to help people in their conservation endeavors.”

“We have had a little bit of a turnover in District Managers and that kind of thing, so I feel like we need to get back out there in the public and see what we can do to be of service.”

Boeckman said they will also be providing information and gathering interest on a Prescribed Burning Association for the county. They will also talk with attendees about the application for State Cost Share Funding.

Boeckman said agriculture is a stressful profession, and sit downs like this can be beneficial to all.

“It’s just a matter of people getting together and talking; good things can come from that.”

“You know agriculture is a stressful profession, and if we can get people in there talking and sharing some of their struggles, sharing some of their successes, this meeting can be beneficial in that way, too.”

Patrons who RSVP by Friday, March 14th, will receive a free meal during the meeting. Boeckman encourages farmers and ranchers to attend this or other future meetings to discuss and collaborate with fellow peers. RSVP by emailing Boeckman at cc.conservationdist@gmail.com, or by calling or texting her at (785) 223-3608.
