Clay County Kansas Emergency Management is working on the mandatory five-year update to the county’s Mitigation Plan, part of the Region F Hazard Mitigation Plan that includes 11 other North Central Kansas counties.

This plan is essential for maintaining eligibility for FEMA funding, which supports safety initiatives before and after disasters. These funds have been used for projects like safe rooms at Clay Center Middle School and other locations, with a pending grant for a Safe Room in the Multi-Generational Life Center. The update process involves assessing past efforts to reduce disaster risks, identifying current hazards, and planning future safety measures.

The county is seeking public input via a quick survey to help identify potential hazards. Community feedback is highly valued and plays a crucial role in enhancing local disaster preparedness and response efforts.
