Clay Center, KS-
The Clay Center emergency sirens have been going off recently and has left residents scratching their heads wondering what was going on.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, the reason the sirens going off is from a malfunction.
As of now, their tech has been looking into updating the system and is currently attempting to get it completed before the start of severe weather season, which officially kicks off March 1st and goes through November 30th.
Weekly tests on the sirens will beginning March 6th at 10 am.
The Sheriff’s Department stated that the sirens in Clay Center are not set off because of fires in nearby communities. Storm sirens in Clay County are only activated in emergency situations when tornados are confirmed by the national weather service or by a trained weather spotter in Clay County.
