The Clay County Fire Department was paged to a garage fire overnight at 520 Garfield in Clay Center. When firefighters arrived, smoke was coming from the garage doors and eaves of the garage. 2 attack lines off Engine 102 were deployed, with one entry team pushing through the garage door and another team going through the North door. The fire was knocked down and extinguished quickly.

After the fire was extinguished, an investigation into the cause was started. The team determined that the fire had started in the northeast corner of the garage. The investigation continues, and electrical can not be ruled out as the cause.

The firefighters put caution tape around the garage and foamed the building to make sure the fire would not rekindle. There was an estimated $25,000 worth of property lost, and $15,000 worth of estimated content burned.
