Clay County Medical Center (CCMC) is pleased to announce the addition of Wendy Gibson, PMHNP, to its behavioral health team. As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Wendy’s educational background is both diverse and robust.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Colorado in Boulder and later completed a Master of Business Administration at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. Her commitment to patient care led her to pursue a Master of Nursing in Patient Safety & Quality from Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester. Most recently, she earned her certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Washburn University in Topeka.

Wendy’s journey into nursing was inspired by her mother, a dedicated nurse, and her early visits to the hospital where her mother worked. This early exposure ignited a lifelong desire to care for others. Her fascination with the human brain and its complexities led her to specialize in psychiatric nursing, with a particular interest in geriatric psychiatry. Wendy’s professional experience includes intensive care, open-heart recovery, emergency departments, and more. She has also served as an Assistant Professor of Nursing and Coordinator of the Nursing Skills Lab & Simulation at Kansas Wesleyan University.

Raised in a rural farming community in Colorado, Wendy is enthusiastic about serving in a smalltown setting like Clay Center. She appreciates CCMC’s patient-oriented and forward-thinking approach to healthcare.

In her personal life, Wendy enjoys reading, writing short stories, drawing, exploring early to mid-1800s U.S. history, and traveling. She has a fondness for animals, especially Boston Terriers, and has previously cared for a variety of pets, including birds, fish, turtles, cats, chickens, horses, and cows.

Wendy looks forward to becoming an active member of the Clay Center community.
