The Cloud County Community College track and field program is hosting a youth camp, “Cloud Track Night,” for all children in kindergarten through 6th grade each Monday night in April. The practices will take place at Harold M. Clark Stadium, located on the Concordia High School campus, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on April 7, 14, 21, and 28.
Drew Mahin, head women’s track and field coach, said the camp will introduce kids to a variety of track and field events, including long jump, shot put, mini hurdles, and relays. Cloud County Track and Field athletes will coach the children through warm-up routines and provide hands-on instruction for each event. The events are modified to fit the capabilities of the younger age groups so everyone can get involved.
“In the past we have had up to 120 kids so we have had a lot of action and a lot of fun– there is something for everyone,” Coach Mahin said.
The goal is to help kids find an event they enjoy while learning techniques to improve their skills.
The camp is open to all children in kindergarten through 6th grade. Coach Mahin said if a child is only available to participate for a portion of the days, he can be contacted directly to make those arrangements. T-shirts are also available and can be purchased by April 7, and will be available after April 14.
Registration is required and can be completed through the Cloud County athletic department website or directly with Coach Mahin. The online registration form can be found at cloudtbirds.com.
In the event of bad weather, parents will be notified about cancellations. For more information, contact Coach Mahin through email at dmahin@cloud.edu or by calling 785-259-5659.
