The Community Chamber Orchestra will host “Now Celebrate Kansas!” on Friday, January 31st in the Morganville School Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m. This family-friendly event will feature music and vendors all associated with the great state of Kansas.

Singer and former Clay County resident Elizabeth Anne Mall will be bringing her talents back to her hometown to sing two Kansas renditions, celebrating the early times of Kansas.

Mall grew up on a farm outside of Morganville and graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 2010. She said her passion for music came from her parents.

“My mom, Anne Clark, is often thought of as the String Person of Clay County. She taught me cello from a young age. My dad also loved playing guitar and singing songs in the living room.  We would do a lot of that for fun. I really got this nice mix of kind of classical training. Along with performing and a love for just really enjoying the act. That planted the seed young.”

Mall said she was delighted when she received the music she would be singing. She said it talks about the early days of Kansas, yet it reminds her of the Kansas she grew up in as a child.

I was amused and delighted when my mom gave me the music to look at because it’s really talking about the experience of Kansas in the past.  Living in sod houses and things about how life was, even in the Pioneer Days. It’s kind of comical, but it’s also kind of interesting to see how it’s still similar today.

Tickets can be purchased at Mayo’s in Clay Center, Manning Music in Manhattan, or from the musicians. Join Mall and the other performers in celebrating Kansas Day with a mix of music and fun.
