Dance Company Finishes Competitive Season, Looking Ahead To Spring Recitals

By Quinn O’Hara

The Dance Company of Clay Center, Concordia, and Beloit recently finished their competitive season.

Their competition season began in February and concluded with the Edge Talent Competition in Wichita from April 12 to 14. The Dance Company had nearly 50 dancers from 3rd grade to their senior year of high school participate in the event. Jolie Kasper, one of the owners of The Dance Company, said several of their students received awards at the competition and throughout the season.

CCCHS Senior Emma Brant won a Special Judges Choice award at the competition with her self-choreographed routine, and The Dance Company’s Hip Hop Routine received the Overall Edge Award which recognized the group as a top scorer in their age group over the entire weekend long competition.

The dance season is not completely over for The Dance Company, however, as they are preparing for two more Spring Recitals.

The first recital took place on April 21 in Beloit. The next will be held at Concordia High School on April 28, and the last will be held in Clay Center at the Clay Center Community High School on May 19.

The Spring Recitals function as the end of the year program for The Dance Company and feature dances their groups have worked on throughout the season, said Kasper. She noted that this year’s shows will be extra special as they will celebrate The Dance Company’s 20th year in business.

The shows will feature students from age 3 all the way through high school. There is no cost to attend the Spring Recitals.

Kasper said she and her dancers are already beginning to plan next year’s choreography and are looking forward to another year of performances and competitions
