From March 23rd-27th, Garfield Elementary School PEP and StuCo, will host a donation drive to support Garfield’s Care Closet.
Community members who would like to contribute can drop off donations at the school.
The Care Closet is in the nurse’s office at Garfield and provides a variety of essential items for students in need, including hygiene products, food, and clothing.
According to Anna Knepper, PEP President at Garfield, the district’s Comfort Corner program also donated a refrigerator to each school this year. Garfield’s is in the office.
“Students are allowed to access the items on as needed basis. They must check in with the office staff or their homeroom teacher before getting anything,” said Knepper.
“This just keeps some accountability, so we can monitor the amount they are taking at once. We want to make sure we have enough items available for everyone.”
Knepper said all donations are accepted, but the most needed items include individual snacks, water bottles, tennis shoes (sizes 4 and 5), coats (for boys and girls), clothes such as leggings, sweatpants, shirts, sweatshirts (large and XL), and feminine hygiene products (smaller size pads and tampons).
