In comparison, 7% of Garfield Students voted for the Harris/Walz ticket versus 21% in Clay County and 41% across Kansas.  The Trump/Vance ticket equaled 90% at Garfield School, 77% across Clay County, and 57% across Kansas. Chestnut says students learning about the voting process and the total election numbers are not the only lessons learned. “We had positive and respectful conversations at school, and we encouraged kids to go home and talk with the adults around them, about the election and encourage them to vote. So I think overall, we succeeded with our goals and what we hoped for for this mock election event.”

154 Garfield Students voted in the mock presidential election for 2024.
