Kansas Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt announced today that the Kansas Department of Insurance recovered $8,443.32 for Clay County residents in 2025 as part of its consumer assistance efforts. Statewide, the Department recovered more than $29.2 million for Kansas policyholders last year.

Commissioner Schmidt said the Department’s work ensures Kansans receive the benefits they are owed when insurance issues arise, emphasizing hands-on support for consumers navigating claims and disputes.

Recovered funds are counted when Department staff assist individuals during the claims process or investigate complaints between policyholders and insurance companies to ensure policies are properly followed.

Since Schmidt took office in 2019, the Department has recovered more than $202 million for Kansans through its Consumer Assistance Division and the Life Insurance Policy Locator.

Residents needing help with insurance claims are encouraged to contact the Department at 785-296-3071, by email at kdoi.complaints@ks.gov, or visit the Department online at insurance.kansas.gov.
