Items Discussed During the Clay Counts Coalition Monthly Meeting on Dec. 10th

Shae Rohrer with The Cook Center for Human Connection presented to Coalition members. Located in Colorado, the Cook Center’s mission is to prevent suicide, provide mental health support, and enhance human connections. Rohrer spoke about the resources the Cook Center funds, including Parentguidance.org and Mylifeisworthliving.org.

Alessia Corrales was named one of ten students across Kansas to serve on the Kansas Youth Prevention Council under YLink. YLink member Kate Larson applied for a grant for the Teen Mates program with the support of Lori Martin. YLink has two events coming up: Finals night at Happy Hippie on December 15th, and a Cider and Hot Chocolate Bar at the high school on December 19th. Volunteers are needed for both events.

Nikki Burwell with the Health Department has been in touch with EMS about a Car Seat Challenge for the area. They are looking to have businesses help provide funding for car seats.

CCCHS teacher Brandon Pfizenmaier has volunteered students to help put up billboards around the county.

Tracy Wohler gave an update on the Too Good for Drugs After School Program. She has been meeting with students once a week during Project Lead, and she said the curriculum has been a great addition to what they were already doing. Clay Counts purchased the upgraded curriculum for the Program.

Lisa Last reported that two Parenting Classes will begin in January for children 10 and under and 11 to 17.

Next month’s meeting will take place at noon on January 14th at the Clay Center Zoo.
