The Board approved the Clay County Landfill to be closed on Saturday morning, December 27th, for the employees to observe the Holiday. They also reviewed and approved Abatements 2025A02 through 2026A05 for the 2025 tax year.
Ryan West, County Maintenance, requested approval to purchase a table saw and stand and presented options available on Amazon. The Board asked him to obtain quotes from local businesses instead.
Highway Administrator Robert Shomper provided his weekly report, noting completion of the Valleyview Road project, reopening of the Deer Trail Road bridge, and ongoing road maintenance work. The Board discussed radio pricing and reviewed bridge inspection bids. The Board unanimously approved awarding the 2026 bridge inspection contract to Kaw Valley Engineering.
EMS Director Alec Trembath reported the department has handled 976 runs to date. Seven EMT students have completed classroom training and are preparing for state testing, and regional officials are working on a mutual aid agreement. The Board unanimously approved purchasing a crosscut paper shredder from Central Office Service & Supply. CPR certification training for law enforcement staff will be provided this week.
Emergency Manager Jim Bogart reported progress on radio pricing, noting potential savings if ordered before the end of 2025. He outlined upcoming meetings and trainings, including sheltering discussions with the American Red Cross, Rapid Tag and damage assessment training, and a Fire Chiefs meeting.
Sheriff Alan Benninga provided his weekly report, noting the Board approved use of the shooting range by the 4-H Shooting Club pending a schedule and proof of insurance. A new patrol Ford pickup has arrived and will be outfitted with equipment. The Board unanimously approved purchasing a topper with needed storage from Film at Eleven. The Board also approved a prorated Axon contract for unlimited body camera data storage for the remaining term.
Don Wright of Clay County Transportation presented budget financials for the remainder of 2026 and for 2027, noting reduced state funding. He plans to step down in April 2026 to help offset costs. The Board approved a one-time donation of $19,748.39 from the Economic Development Fund to meet 2026 budget needs, emphasizing the service’s importance to the community.
Chris Meyn of AirMedCare Network Life Star presented information on AirMedCare memberships for emergency air transport coverage. The Board tabled the discussion until after January 2026.
