Topics discussed during the USD 379 monthly board meeting on August 11th included: sidewalk work, TLEC Contract, Delegate Assembly, District Kickoff, Consolidation options, ADA parking expansion, and more.
The board reviewed monthly financial statements, donations, building usage, disposals, and contracts. All were carried unanimously.
Brett Nelson, Superintendent, reported that this year’s Delegate Assembly will take place during the KASB Annual Convention in November. Nelson noted that he was part of a meeting on the disorganization of USD 334. He stated that the USD 334 board will likely vote to dissolve the district, and USD 379 will be part of that decision. The public must vote to dissolve the district. More information will come after the dissolution.
Anita Breen, TLEC Director, reported that the classified staff attended a professional development training. The day ended with Trooper Ben speaking to staff about his struggles in school and how it has shaped his life today. She also reported on TLEC staff needs and beginning school dates for the cooperative districts. A contract with CCMC was also provided, stating that they will provide physical therapy for TLEC this school year.
Jaclyn Pfizenmaier, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, reported that the district has eight new teachers this year. She provided the schedule of the 2025 District Kickoff, with the first day of school being August 19th and 20th, based on grade. She also reported that the staff held their Cardiac Emergency Response Plan exercise on August 8th.
The board discussed three different scenarios on the possibility of reconfiguring or consolidating classes and buildings. Scenarios one and two discuss the option of moving and reconfiguring students out of Garfield Elementary, the oldest building in the district. The final Scenario would possibly move PK/SAC to GES with K-5 all being at LES. No action was taken. The board also discussed the Mill Levy Analysis and the projected Bond Issue.
The board then reviewed and discussed the FY26 Budget. The board discussed holding a budget hearing on September 8th, at 6:00 p.m. A motion was made to approve the date for the revenue-neutral rate hearing on September 8th. Motion carried unanimously.
Graduation dates were set for CCCHS and WHS, which will be Saturday, May 16th, 2026.
Bids for work on a sidewalk project and ADA parking expansion at the MAC were reviewed. A motion was made to accept the bid from Creed Construction for the concrete work. Motion carried unanimously.
