Clay Center hosted the 4A Sub State Championship on Saturday and knocked out Hugoton and are now headed to the State Championships in Salina. The Lady Tigers jumped out early behind four 3-pointers; two each from Janae Crimmins and Lily Edwards. Defense was key in building a 21-point lead at halftime. Clay Center struggled in the 3rd to score but still led by a dozen starting the 4th. They put the game away down the stretch with a 50-39 final. Raegann McDonald was a force in the paint on both ends with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Edwards would go 3-4 from the 3 point line and finished with 11; Crimmins-6; Ayla Johnson-5 (along with 5 assists); Raimee Lipker-4; Miley McGee-4; Savanah Bloomdahl-2. The Lady Tigers head to the state tournament at the Tony’s Pizza Event Center in Salina with a 17-6 record and the Number 8 Seed. Their opening round game will be Thursday at 6 PM against Topeka-Hayden the Number 2 Seed.
