Press Release
“The Lighthouse for Christ will be hiring on a second paid position. This position will be called the Directors Assistant & Social Media Manager. Greta Larson Hadduck will be taking on this role. This new role is crucial as our ministry keeps growing, especially through our impactful use of social media. Our Lighthouse for Christ Facebook page has seen significant growth since Abby Sprague started as the director. With Facebook page followers increasing from just over 350 to now over 1,400, including people from our county and out of state. It’s been a powerful platform to showcase what we do at the Lighthouse, whether it’s sharing stories of referrals, photos from food drives and service projects, or uplifting messages and Bible verses. With more people consuming information online, we see social media as a key way to share Christ’s message and inspire giving, as God calls us to do.
The person in this role will assist in handling our social media presence, manage our website with online donation capabilities, and assist in potential grant writing opportunities. They’ll also be responsible for responding to direct messages on our Facebook account, which has become increasingly important. We often receive daily questions and comments from community members, but one area of growth we’ve really seen is referrals being able to ask questions about how to get assistance using Facebook DM’s. Some of our referrals do not have cell service to make a phone call, so they rely on free WiFi to connect, and Facebook DMs allow them to message us directly. In special cases, we can provide help entirely online, starting from these initial contacts on Facebook. We do still encourage referrals to seek out an application from a local church, but in special circumstances such as medical emergencies exceptions can be made.
Exciting areas on our new website will include a dedicated section where you can print a volunteer application and learn more about volunteering. Community members and service groups can even request specific dates for service projects. There will be a section listing current needs for the pantry and thrift store. Now people can easily check and see a list, if they are at the store or “in the moment” decide they’d like to donate specific items. Another huge issue we are addressing is a convenient way to donate online, using a credit/debit card or bank account. Up until now, donations have been limited to cash or check, which isn’t always convenient. That’s why we’re introducing online giving, allowing for monthly donations with automatic withdrawals or one-time contributions, without any minimum amount required.
The website is not up at this time, but will be soon.
The Lighthouse and its Board of Directors is thrilled to start this new position. We are confident it will serve both our ministry and our community in a truly impactful way!
