The Lighthouse for Christ in Clay Center was recently awarded a combined $4,000 donation from Blue Stem Electric and CoBank’s Sharing Success Program. Proceeds and donations like this are crucial for the Lighthouse to continue making an impact in the community.

Abby Sprague, Lighthouse Director, said they are grateful and blessed with the donation. She said the funds will go towards the recent renovations and continued community support.

“We plan to use those funds on the overage we had with the office renovation, and miscellaneous space for the store. We had about $2000 in overage there.”

“And then last month, we distributed over $5,600 for referral assistance. So, the rest is going to go into covering those expenses.”

Last month’s referral assistance number of over $5,600 is one of the highest amounts they’ve ever had as costs continue to rise. Sprague said the need is rising.

“In April alone, we did $5,634 in referral assistance. That’s one of the highest months we’ve ever had. The need for assistance has definitely been rising.”

“Utility bills have been very high for our referrals this year. We also assisted 27 households with food and clothing in April.”

“We are just seeing again that the need keeps rising.”

With rising costs and rising referral needs, the Lighthouse is looking for community support and donations to be sure they can keep helping those in need.

To donate, visit the Lighthouse for Christ’s website or visit the store during open hours.
