A group of caring individuals took action into their own hands to create a new nonprofit in Clay Center, tackling properties that have, for different reasons, gotten out of hand and are in need of cleaning up.
Tiger Care, Inc., created by a group of local veterans a community members, helps clean up and beautify the community through volunteer labor.
Ryan Higdon, co-creator of Tiger Care, said they went to the city after seeing the need to spruce up the community.
“I got with the Masons, and we cleaned up the river here in town early this year, and I saw all the trash in the river. Then there was a City Council meeting about unkept yards and stuff.”
“I thought that basically, I was doing some of it already. So, I thought this would be a good way to give back to the community and help out.”
While still in its infancy, Higdon said they would like to grow to the point of receiving grants and fundraising to further their mission in cleaning up the city. Tiger Care has also done things, such as mowing lawns for local veterans and providing free haircuts to children before school started.
The great part about this nonprofit is that almost anyone can be a part of it. They are simply asking for volunteers to help out during their project times.
“The best way to reach out to Tiger Care would be through the Facebook page. People can also call or text me at 620-615-2312, and then we can link up that way.”
“Right now, mainly we are looking for volunteers, but we’re not requesting any donations at this time.”
Higdon and his friends took a step that will help benefit this community one property at a time. To be part of this transformative new local organization, follow the Tiger Care, Inc. Facebook page to check for the next volunteer opportunity.
