River Valley 4-H will host an interest meeting on a new Clay County 4-H Shooting Sports Club in Clay Center. The meeting will take place on Friday, November 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the Event Center on the Clay County Fairgrounds.
Macy Hynek, 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent, said the Club will consist of the following disciplines: BB, Air Rifle, Archery, Small Bore-22, Shotgun, and Coordinator thanks to the generosity of seven volunteers who became trained in their discipline to start this Club.
The Shooting Sports Club and informational meeting is for anybody, not just local 4-H members. The meeting will cover multiple important topics about the new Club. Hynek explained more about the meeting.
“What this Club is going to look like, it is going to be a full functioning Club, and this is actually going to be a Project Club that is all surrounded around shooting sports. So, there are just some little things that will be hashed out and kind of explained to the public about what this Club looks like. We’re also going to explain the ins and outs of all of our practices; where we’re shooting, when we’re shooting, etc. You’re going to be able to meet all seven of our screened volunteers who are helping put this on and learn how this all got started.”
The overall goal is to train youth in a positive atmosphere. Providing a wide opportunity for youth to go as far as they want. Hynek said this is a great, local opportunity.
“Their big goal is to give kids opportunities to be able to shoot in those five disciplines but to do it at a local level. Then hopefully be able to compete then with the district-level kids around the four counties that we serve: Clay Cloud, Republic, and Washington. And then to go on go to state qualifiers, go to state, and even nationals.”
Hynek wanted to emphasize that the meeting and Club are for any youth aged 7 to 18, not just area 4-H members. Anyone interested in the Clay County 4-H Shooting Sports Club is encouraged to join them at the meeting.
