Orange and Black Pack to Host Third Golf Tournament Fundraiser, Adds Heckle Hole

On August 24, the Orange and Black Pack will host its third back-to-school golf tournament fundraiser at the Clay Center Country Club. Teams can sign up online through August 16th.

Tournament organizer, Brandon Lee, said this year will be a little different, with various forms of golf to be played. He said the move is to add fun to the event, and incorporate all levels of golf.

“I want teams to sign up to see if they’re interested in playing something different,” he said. “They’ll just know it’s a different style than they’ve played before.”

The to-be-disclosed styles of tournament play will consist of four-man teams. Up to 20 teams can be accommodated. Lee added that scramble-style golf will be involved part of the time.

Also new to this year’s event will be the addition of a trophy, he said.

“It will be a continuous trophy and names will be engraved in it,” he said. Adding that the trophy will sit on the CCCHS commons’ case.

Spectators are invited to come hang out at the event, said Orange and Black Pack co-presidents, Jericho Hammond and Kate Henry. Whether they want to follow their favorite team on the course, come out to eat, have a drink, or just enjoy the fun.

A lunch of hamburgers and homemade cookies will be available to purchase for all in attendance. Raffle tickets will be available for sale during the event, with prizes from local vendors, they said.

Betting holes will be present to help raise funds, along with awards, such as best-dressed.

“There are multiple big prizes, we are proud of the prizes we were able to get,” said Henry.

Finally, the addition of a “heckle hole” will take place during the tournament. This will include a group of organized hecklers who will taunt and jeer the golfers – all in good fun.

“They won’t impede a shot,” Lee said. “But I can’t say anything else won’t be allowed.”

The Orange and Black Pack is a volunteer group of high school parents and is not associated with the school district. Its funds are used to support athletics and activities of CCCHS. A small portion of what the booster club purchased last year include: new drums for the band, various sports equipment, a camera for the journalism department, and rugs for the school entry way.

Participants can sign up via the Orange and Black Pack Facebook page.
