Pedal into Fun and Safety: Clay Center Cub Scouts to Host Bike Rodeo May 3rd at the Fairgrounds

By: Ryan Duey

Clay Center’s Cub Scout Pack 55 will host a Bike Rodeo at the Clay County Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 3rd, at 8:00 a.m. The Bike Rodeo will include an obstacle course, bike safety, a one-mile bike ride, and much more.

Natosha Hevelone, Event Organizer, said she heard that before COVID there had been a Bike Rodeo and wanted to bring the event back.  She said this event not only helps the Scouts but is also great for the community.

“I had been looking at it for a while and looking at what the Scout requirements were for earning their badges.”

“Then I thought, we could do a Bike Rodeo event and knock all of these requirements out and invite the community and make it a great safety information event for the summer coming up.”

“It’s a really good way for families to come out, enjoy themselves, and learn about Scouts in Clay Center.”

Many local businesses and organizations have donated items or will donate their time during the event. Items including bike helmets, obstacle cones, and streamers have been donated. First responders have agreed to take part in the event, registering bicycles, going over road safety, and providing proper helmet fitting. Two lucky winners will also win a 20-inch bicycle. Hevelone said this event wouldn’t be possible without the support from the community.

“I want to thank all the organizations and businesses that have helped make this a reality!”

“If anyone has an idea in the community, you just have to ask. Most of the time people will say yes or they’ll point you in the direction of someone else who can help you.”

“We have an amazing community, and they love to support our youth. A lot of these organizations and businesses support our youth, and other events throughout the year.”

The Bike Rodeo will culminate with a one-mile bike ride at 9:30 a.m. Hevelone said parents will need to register their child at the event.

Bring your bike and helmet to the Fairgrounds on May 3rd for a morning of fun, while learning about the local Cub Scout Troop.
