On May 8, A Mural Movement unveiled its 30th mural in Clay Center. The mural, titled “Prairie Thunder”, was created by artist Christian Stanley of C. Stanley Creative (Orlando, FL) over a three-week period. The 3,800-square-foot art piece is showcased on the side of CVA’s grain bin, located at the corner of 4th Street and Grant Ave.
The artwork features Kansas’s state animal, the buffalo, along with storms, sunsets, and the burning of the Flint Hills prairie, paying homage to the history of the state.
This is the second mural Stanley has collaborated with A Mural Movement to create in Clay Center. In 2022 he painted “A Sunflower State of Mind”.
Stanley said he was honored to return to Clay Center to paint. “It is my hope that this mural becomes a well-known landmark and continues the work of A Mural Movement. I have really enjoyed my time here, as the community of Clay Center is like no other in its appreciation for public art,” said Stanley.
