Professional Counselor and Intern to Host Mental Health Groups for CCMS Students in October

By: Ryan Duey

Every Tuesday afternoon from October 1st to the 22nd Clay Center Middle School students will have an option to join a free mental health group geared towards their age and needs. Run by graduate intern Krista Wiss, with support from Professional Counselor and owner of Mellies Mental Wellness, Erin Mellies, these groups will take place after school from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m. at Mellies’ soon-to-be new office located at 805 5th Street in Clay Center.

Krista Wiss is currently a graduate intern. After she graduates, she plans to work in the Mental Health Profession at Clay County Community Hospital. Mellies said they reached out to the Middle School Counselors about this Program.

Mellies said that her new location will be conveniently located right downtown near Garfield Elementary. Middle School students can take the bus from the Middle School to Garfield Elementary if transportation is needed. Mellies said while Wiss will run the groups, she will be there to support and guide her during this internship.

While this is a completely free program, parents and guardians are still required to register their children. More information and contact information to sign up can be found on the Mellies Mental Wellness Facebook page.
