The Republican Valley Ringnecks Pheasants Forever Chapter of Clay County is set to host its annual Youth Pheasant Hunt on Sunday, November 3rd. This annual event is geared for youth aged 8 to 16.
Youth participants will participate in a variety of activities, including a live pheasant hunt. Tanner Cannizzo with Republican Valley Ringnecks highlighted some of the different activities they will have.
“We have 5 different stations that the kids will do. They’ll shoot .22s, they’ll do a field safety walk, learn how to properly walk through a field, and then they’ll shoot blue rock. They’ll shoot archery, and then they will do a live bird hunt. Each kid gets a chance to shoot at two rooster pheasants. They will rotate through those 5 stations.”
Cannizzo said they have 30 youth participating this year, all signing up within a day and a half of opening up registration. He said this yearly event is meant to get youth outdoors.
“I just think getting our youth involved with the outdoors is a big thing. Get them outside, get them doing something as far as outdoors. Let them learn the hunting aspects of everything and the safety of it, we are big on safety and push safety. We make sure they’re comfortable with shooting their gun and carrying their gun before the live bird hunt.”
Slots are already full this year, but Cannizzo said they have been doing this yearly event for many years, so there are future opportunities to join. Follow the Republican Valley Ringnecks Facebook page to stay informed.
