The Rotary Club, led by President Thomas Mulligan, is initiating a project to replace hazardous sidewalks throughout Clay Center. The primary focus is on sections where raised concrete, between 3 to 8 inches high, creates obstacles for pedestrians, cyclists, and stroller users.
Mulligan explained that this effort aims to create a safer environment for residents and visitors. In partnership with the city, the project will prioritize problem areas based on available funds, which Rotary will raise through various fundraising events. The goal is to complete the work by early summer 2025.
The project may face challenges, such as gaining homeowner approval for repairs, as sidewalks are considered private property. While minor disruptions are expected during construction, the improvements are intended to provide lasting benefits to the community.
