The Valuable Grant Program offers certain residents in Clay, Cloud, Marshall, Republic, and Washington Counties a chance for a grant to help replace failing septic systems. The application deadline for a second round of area septic system grants is Tuesday, April 15th.
Marlene Stamm, Washington County Sanitarian, said this grant is to help residents outside of city limits, on private septic systems.
“The purpose of this grant is to help those who live out of city limits that are on private septic systems that may have income limitations, with replacing or upgrading their septic systems.”
This grant program will be prioritized based on income levels, with the funds being spread out over the five counties. Stamm said that contacting her directly is the best way to get answers.
“I’m going to encourage basically anyone that contacts me to go ahead and fill out an application. It will be prioritized based on the lower income levels, but you just don’t know how many are going to apply.”
“In order to know if you’re eligible, basically give me a call and I can kind of give you a heads-up of the income guidelines based on the number of people in your family. But again, I would just encourage you to fill it out just to find out.”
Homeowners with incomes below 133 percent of the poverty level are eligible for up to 75 percent of costs being covered. Homeowners with incomes between 134 and 200 percent can receive up to 50 percent of funding.
