Topics discussed during the Clay County Commissioners’ regular meeting on August 19th include: health plans, the Commercial NRP, weekend events, an animal sheltering class, a federal grant, and more.
The Board discussed different options for the Commercial NRP and whether the plan should be renewed or not. No action was taken at this time. They also discussed the State Employee Health Plan for the Non-State Employer Group. After discussion the Board made a motion to sign the contract to renew the plan contract for another three years, passing unanimously.
Alec Trembath, EMS Director, informed the Board that the Department will be providing stand-by service at the Wakefield Birthday Bash.
Pam Kemp, Emergency Manager, notified the Board that FEMA notified her about a project in the county from the years 2018 and 2019. According to the notification, additional paperwork should have been done. The name on the application was for the Clay County Highway Department. Kemp stated that she would work with Bobby Shomper to try and get this project finished. She also informed the Board that Clay County will host an Animal Sheltering Class so volunteers and others will know how to handle pets and other animals in case of a disaster.
Alan Benninga, Sheriff, reported to the Board that the Sheriff’s Department will be providing coverage at various events in the County, including the Wakefield Birthday Bash, Longford Rodeo, Morganville Party in the Ville, and Piotique.
Scott Leitzel, Twin Valley, met with the Board to discuss a Federal Grant for the placement of Broadband Development in rural areas of Clay County. Leitzel reported that Twin Valley is asking for letters of support to include in the application. The Board agreed to provide a letter in support of Twin Valley for the application.
Rhonda Carroll, Landfill Director, presented quotes on the Groundwater Sampling that must take place twice a year for KDHE. The Board made the motion to accept the bid from SCS Engineers, passing unanimously.
