The National Weather Service (NWS) has designated March 2–6 as Severe Weather Preparedness Week, highlighting daily safety topics and encouraging Kansans to review emergency plans. A statewide tornado drill is scheduled for March 4th at 10:00 a.m. The test alert will sound on NOAA Weather Radio, but will not be sent to cell phones.

Daily themes include: Monday – Preparedness; Tuesday – Flood Safety; Wednesday – Tornado Safety; Thursday – Hail and Wind Safety; and Friday – Lightning Safety.

NWS will also host a Storm Spotter Show at the Clay County Event Center on Wednesday, April 1st, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. A National Weather Service meteorologist will teach thunderstorm development and structure, thunderstorm safety, and what, when, and how to report information.
