Kara Bergsten, the Vocal Music Director at Clay Center Community High School and Middle School, is the main organizer and director of the singing tree. Bergsten talks of the performance:

Each year, a Star of the Christmas tree is selected to perform a solo.

Bergsten says her students prepare for the Christmas tree from their last performance in October, throughout the month of November, and up to the day of the event in December.
