The CCCHS Tiger Theater group is preparing for its fall production of ‘A Year with Frog and Toad,’ with performances set for Saturday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, November 16th at 3:00 p.m. at Martyn-Snodgrass Auditorium.
Based on a 1970 children’s classic by Arnold Lobel, ‘A Year with Frog and Toad’ brings the audience on a journey through the four seasons. The whimsical show is meant for people of all ages.
Greyson Brandt, who plays the role of Toad, said preparations have gone really well leading up to the production.
“Our preparation, especially for the acting, is pretty well established. I feel very confident in my character.”
“I play Toad, and he’s very anxious. He doesn’t always think things through like he should, and that’s okay.”
“I think you definitely start to feel the character more as you run through everything and get a feel for how the character would respond to things and how they would act.”
Audience members will meet a lot of fun characters from the books. Scouten Baker, who plays the role of Frog, spoke about how she gets into character.
“I really like listening to the songs before we do rehearsal.”
“It helps you get a grasp of the character from someone else’s point of view, someone else who has portrayed that character and portrayed them well.”
“Also, I think casting is a big deal. I feel like I can somewhat relate to Frog. He has a very calming nature, and he’s not afraid of much.”
“Understanding your character is a big part of getting into the character.”
The students work extremely hard preparing for each production, from learning their characters to designing costumes and sets, all leading up to one big weekend.
Baker and Brandt wanted to emphasize that this production is suited for any age, young and old. This production is great for young children and adults who remember the ‘Frog and Toad’ classics they grew up reading.
This is a great family event that supports the hard-working CCCHS students. Advanced tickets can be purchased at Mayo’s in downtown Clay Center or at the door this weekend.
