Topics Discussed at Clay Center City Council’s Regular Meeting on October 15th

Topics discussed during the Clay Center City Council’s regular meeting on October 15th included: grant processes, equipment, Cloverton Concert, Ordinance on UTVs, Fall Clean Up, certifications, and more.

City Clerk Amelia Blackwood reported to the Council that there will be a public hearing next meeting for Nelson’s CDBG grant process.

Councilor Daton Hess provided the Council with a quote for a Caterpillar Motor Grader from Foley Equipment for the Street Department, a motion was made to purchase the Motor Grader, passing unanimously. A motion was also made to accept sealed bids for the Street Department’s old Motor Grader, selling to the highest bidder, passing unanimously.

Michelle Tessaro requested a donation for the upcoming Cloverton Concert on December 2nd. A motion was made to donate $1,000 for the concert, passing unanimously.

Councilor Mike Schultze reported to the Council that building permits were issued for different shops and garages in the city. He also stated that the City Attorney’s office is continuing to work on a draft for the UTV/Golf Cart Ordinance.

Councilor Daton Hess reported to the Council that the sewer infrastructure project on 12th Street Estates has been placed on hold as they plan to focus on the North and South Lots before the Center lots. He also stated that the KDHE Wastewater Operator Certification timelines have changed, certain certifications can now be obtained in one year versus two years, along with an Operator in Training option being added to help with shortages.

Councilor Phil Kasper reported to the Council that the Airport Fuel System has a projected shipping date of October 31st. Hoidale will work with Advanced Electric to get the new system installed as soon as possible. He also stated that all pool chemicals at the Aquatic Center need to be removed from the water before it can be drained. Kasper made a motion to approve the ad for the 1st Ward Vacancy also, passing unanimously.
