Bobby Shomper, Highway Administrator, reported that the department bladed roads, hauled rock and dirt, mowed roadsides, patched asphalt, repaired signs, and hauled the Landfill’s Rolloff truck to Salina.
Kayla Wang, County Clerk, discussed the 2025 holiday schedule, noting closures for Thanksgiving (Nov. 27–28) and Christmas (Dec. 24–25). The Board approved adding Friday, Dec. 26, 2025, as an additional paid holiday for employees.
Rhonda Carroll, Landfill Director, met with the Board regarding KDHE-required forms and requested that Schwab-Eaton, Inc. review and assist with engineering design services for the landfill expansion. The proposal includes evaluating both existing and new disposal cells. The Board tabled the decision until Commissioner Thurlow’s return.
Jim Bogart, Emergency Manager, reported he has not yet found any available grants for purchasing AED units. He plans to attend a District Meeting in Osborne County this week and will host a Homeland Security Meeting in Clay County next week.
Alan Benninga, Sheriff, informed the Board that Ford canceled some new vehicle orders due to aluminum shortages. Clay County’s order for a 2025 F-150 Police Responder has been replaced with a 2024 model, including a Thunderstruck Grill and installation. The purchase was approved.
Christine Swaim, County Treasurer, informed the Board that a date for the Delinquent Tax Sale will be announced soon and held before year’s end. She requested permission to close her office the afternoon of December 31, 2025, to begin the year-end process.
