U.S. Census Shows Estimated Decline of 158 Residents in Clay County over the Past Five Years

The U.S. Census Bureau has released its estimated yearly population numbers from April 1st, 2020, to July 1st, 2024. Estimates show a decrease of 158 residents in Clay County over the past five years, with a high of 8,127 residents in 2020 to 7,969 in 2024.

Cities within the county have seen varying results in resident growth or decline since 2020.

Data shows that:

  • Clay Center went from an estimated 4,202 residents in 2020 to 4,070 residents in 2024, a decline of 132 residents.
  • Clifton had an estimated low of 448 residents in 2022, to an estimated population of 456 in 2024, a growth of eight residents.
  • Longford went from 73 to 71 in the last five years, declining by two residents.
  • Morganville’s estimated population has stayed fairly steady, with a high of 184 residents in 2022 to 181 residents in 2024.
  • Oakhill gained one resident over the past five years, going from an estimated 24 residents to 25 in 2024.
  • Wakefield has seen a decline of 23 residents. Recording a high of 863 residents in 2020, down to 840 in 2024.

The data provided by the Census Bureau website only showed populations of incorporated places in Kansas.
