Tonight, March 18, at 6pm the USD 379 Board of Education will begin their monthly meeting. Among several other items of discussion and voting, the meeting’s agenda includes a vote to participate in the soon-to-be Life Center, which is scheduled to begin construction in September of 2024.
According to the Accelerator Community Grants Board Report by USD 379 Superintendent Brett Nelson, the purpose of the vote is to consider collaborating with several community partners to operate the childcare center portion of the Clay Center Multi-Generational Life Center.
The same report states that if the Board votes yes on the measure, USD 379 will be responsible for running two rooms within the child care portion of the building and maintain the appropriate child care licensing guidelines for the State of Kansas.
The Board initially tabled the vote at their February meeting due to unanswered questions, with several new members citing an unfamiliarity with the project. In the time since, the Board has compiled, researched, and discussed their remaining questions with the intent of voting on their participation at tonight’s meeting. The meeting will be held at the Stuart Administrative Center in Clay Center starting at 6pm. A link to a live stream of the meeting is available here.
