After several months of construction, moving displays, gathering items, and other finishing touches, the Wakefield Museum’s third expansion is almost ready to be unveiled.
New additions in the expansion include a large wall full of historical photographs of Wakefield, several new displays, and several updates to increase accessibility to the museum such as an elevator and new handicap ramps.
Wakefield Museum Director Joy Shandy said the expansion has given the museum much needed breathing room and space.
The new addition will be dedicated on May 25 at 10 am, exactly 50 years to the day from the museum’s original dedication in 1974. After a brief lunch break, the rest of the museum will open from 1 to 5:30pm.
Shandy and the rest of the museum’s partners encourage the public to visit and celebrate the new expansion and the continued preservation of Wakefield’s history.
