On Saturday, May 25, the Wakefield Museum unveiled the finished product of its most recent expansion: the Cooper-Newell Wing.
The new section adds two new floors, a handicap ramp entrance, an elevator, a remodeled bathroom, and several brand-new displays. Because the Wakefield Museum receives no tax dollar support, the construction of the Cooper-Newell Wing was funded solely by donations.
The museum’s Director, Joy Shandy, spoke at the dedication ceremony, thanking those who contributed to the museum and the museum’s founders for their foresight in preserving the history of the small town. Shandy also thanked those who have donated their items to be displayed at the museum.
The Wakefield Museum also celebrated its 50th Anniversary on May 25, having been opened to the public on the same day in 1974.
