Wreaths Across America Hosts Ceremony at Greenwood Cemetery

By Trish Svoboda

This Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Wreaths Across America (WAA) is hosting a wreath-laying ceremony in Clay Center at Greenwood Cemetery, an official WAA location. Led and coordinated by the Nathan Edson Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored 1,159 veterans’ wreaths to lay on the headstones of fallen service members. According to a media release, there are 62 other participating locations in Kansas this year, and 4,219 other locations across the country.

Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit, originated from the vision of Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992, who initiated the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. The organization’s ongoing mission, “Remember, Honor, Teach,” is carried out each year through the coordination of wreath-laying events each December at Arlington and across all 50 states and overseas.
