Calvin Vick, 26, Wichita, has been sentenced by District Judge Jeffrey Goering to 219 months in prison following the drug-related death of his 22-month-old son, Israel Luna-Vick. The sentencing comes after an incident on June 22nd, 2022 when the infant was discovered unresponsive on the floor of Vick’s apartment.
He was taken to a Wichita hospital where medical staff made efforts to save him, including administering NARCAN as a precaution for a potential drug overdose.
Wichita Police found four tablets in the apartment that were on the carpet and underneath the child’s sleeping area. Testing by the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center confirmed they contained Fentanyl.
An autopsy conducted at the Forensic Science Center determined that the child’s death resulted from the ingestion of both methamphetamine and Fentanyl. On December 7th, Vick entered a guilty plea to charges of distribution of a controlled substance causing great bodily harm or death, aggravated endangering a child, and distribution of a controlled substance.
