Minimum-Custody Resident Zachary H. Leis Apprehended and Back in Custody at Wichita Work Release Facility

Topeka, KS – 

Minimum-custody resident Zachary H. Leis has been apprehended and is back in custody at the Wichita Work Release Facility. Leis, a 28-year-old white male, turned himself in just before the noon hour Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

Leis was reported missing when he did not return to the facility after work yesterday. Officials from the Kansas Department of Corrections, Enforcement, Apprehensions & Investigations (EAI), and the Kansas Highway Patrol had been searching throughout the night and this morning.

Leis is serving a sentence for convictions of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, criminal damage to property and two counts of domestic battery out of Sedgwick County.

At this time no other details are being released as the investigation is ongoing.

The Wichita Work Release Facility, a satellite unit of the Winfield Correctional Facility, is an all-male, minimum-custody state prison with a population of 146.
