The Community Foundation of Dickinson County has awarded a $20,000 Community Grant to support the launch of the Rising Light Recovery House, a new residential recovery program designed to provide safe and stable housing for women working toward sobriety.
Substance Use Disorder (SUD) remains a critical issue in Dickinson County and throughout Kansas. While thousands of women statewide are hospitalized each year for SUD-related issues, far fewer can access structured treatment or safe transitional housing. Rising Light Recovery House aims to help bridge this gap by offering a supportive, community-centered environment where women can rebuild their lives.
The new Abilene home will serve up to four women at a time and offer a structured recovery model based on proven best practices. Residents will participate in daily routines that promote stability and accountability while accessing wraparound services, including:
· Life-skills and financial management training
· Counseling, mentorship, and peer support
· Volunteer opportunities and community engagement
· Job readiness training and employment connections
· Transportation, identification assistance, and long-term recovery support
“The Rising Light Recovery House represents an urgently needed, collaborative solution for women in our community who are ready to pursue lasting recovery. We are proud to invest in this project and help provide a foundation of hope and stability,” said Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Dickinson County Elizabeth Weese.
Rising Light is supported by several community partners, including Quality of Life Coalition, Hope Center, New Leaf Counseling, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Dickinson County Recovery Court Program. Together, these organizations will help provide comprehensive wrap-around services for residents.
“We are honored to receive this funding from the Community Foundation of Dickinson County. Their investment in Rising Light Recovery House helps us provide the wraparound services that bring stability, hope, and long-term healing to those we serve,” states Rising Light Board of Directors member Kat McKee.
This grant was awarded through the Community Foundation of Dickinson County’s annual community grant cycle, which funds local organizations working to strengthen the well-being of Dickinson County.
