The Community Foundation of Dickinson County has awarded $46,868.58 to the City of Solomon to upgrade its public restrooms, an improvement that will benefit everyone in the community.

Earlier this month, Community Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Weese attended the Solomon City Commission meeting to present the grant check in person. This project reflects the Foundation’s ongoing mission to strengthen communities across Dickinson County by supporting projects that enhance daily life for residents and visitors alike.

“Restrooms aren’t glamorous, but they’re something everyone uses,” said Weese. “When they’re clean and well-maintained, people notice and appreciate it. We are proud to partner with the City of Solomon to make this necessary improvement that will benefit families, community members, and visitors for years to come.”

“We are incredibly grateful to the Community Foundation of Dickinson County for making this project possible,” said City of Solomon Mayor Brandy Gray. “With fresh finishes, upgraded fixtures, and new accessibility features like a baby changing station, our public restrooms will be cleaner, more comfortable, and more welcoming for both residents and visitors.”

Recently, the Foundation has been working to take a more proactive approach with its grants, seeking out projects addressing community needs. Public restrooms were one area that stood out. Many had fallen into disrepair, not only from age but also from repeated vandalism. By investing in upgrades and collaborating with city leaders, the Foundation hopes to improve these essential facilities while also exploring ways to help deter future damage.

This marks the second restroom project supported by the Foundation in recent months. In August, CFDC awarded a grant to the City of Herington for its public restroom improvements. Similar upgrades are also being planned for Abilene, with timing still to be determined. Looking ahead to next summer, CFDC intends to review the condition of public restrooms in other Dickinson County communities as part of its commitment to ensuring safe, clean, and welcoming spaces for all.

Since 1999, the Community Foundation of Dickinson County has granted more than $18 million to local nonprofits, schools, and municipalities. By connecting donors with causes that matter, CFDC ensures Dickinson County continues to thrive — For Good. For Ever.
