Wichita, KS– The Kansas Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists’ 54th annual satirical Gridiron show returns to raise money for journalism scholarships.
This year’s show, “Gridiron: Royally Funny,” will be held at 8 p.m. on March 23, 24 and 25 at Roxy’s Downtown, 412 ½ E. Douglas. Those who prefer to stay home may watch through the purchase of a streaming pass for Saturday night.
The annual show features a wacky group of local reporters, journalists and news people who spoof the news and comment on the state of affairs of the city, region, state and nation. It’s all locally written and produced. Think Saturday Night Live or Capital Steps.
A special one-night-only VIP after-party, dedicated to two late long-time journalists — Randy Brown and Bill Roy — will be held directly following the March 24 Friday night show. The party will feature food, drinks, swag bags and a silent auction to raise money for scholarships.
Gridiron is a fundraiser of the Kansas Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists to fund journalism scholarships for students at Kansas colleges and universities.
This year, Kansas SPJ is awarding $13,500 to nine deserving students. To date, more than $270,000 has been awarded in scholarships to journalism students across Kansas. Wichita’s Gridiron is the longest continuously running show of its kind in the country.
Tickets for the live performance are $38 and may be reserved through Roxy’s Downtown online at RoxysDowntown.com/events/gridiron-1 or by calling 316-265-4400.
Streaming tickets are available for $20 through https://spj.booktix.com/.
